Why should you be Baptized?
Because you want to follow Christ’s example.
Mark 1:9 (NLT) “One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized Him in the Jordan River.”
Because Christ commanded it.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT) Jesus said, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Because it shows you are a believer.
Acts 18:8b (NLT) “Many others in Corinth also heard Paul, became believers, and were baptized.”
Because obeying Christ’s command shows you know Him.
1 John 2:3 (NLT) “And we can be sure that we know Him if we obey His commandments.”
What is the meaning of Baptism?
It is a symbol of Christ’s Burial and resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT) “…that Christ died for our sins… he was buried… and he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the scriptures said.”
Colossians 2:12 (NLT) “For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”
It is a symbol of your new life as a Christian.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
Romans 6:4 (NLT) “For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.”
Baptism does not make you a believer; it shows that you already are one! Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT) “God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
By being immersed in water, just as Jesus was baptized.
Matthew 3:16 (NLT) “After His baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on Him.”
